About Us
Our History
Founded in 1999, the Coalition of Asian American Government Employees (CAAGE) was established to address the unique challenges faced by Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) public servants in their pursuit of career advancement, inclusion, and fair representation within the government sector. Born in the Year of the Dragon, CAAGE’s mission is to support, advocate for, and empower AANHPI employees working in city, state, and federal government roles.

The organization emerged from the informal gatherings of AANHPI government professionals who shared a common goal: to break through the "glass ceiling" and dismantle the systemic barriers that hinder AANHPI in the workforce. Founding members, including Bayard Fong, Joe Lam, Christine Haw, Anna Wong, Dorothy Yee, and Bill Lee, recognized the need for a structured platform to foster both professional development and personal growth for AANHPI employees.

At its core, CAAGE strives to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in public service by creating leadership development pathways and cultivating a strong community of AANHPI professionals. Through mentorship, networking, and advocacy, CAAGE ensures that AANHPI have equal access to opportunities for growth, leadership, and influence, empowering them to contribute meaningfully to policies that serve diverse communities.

In 2016, CAAGE proudly achieved 501(c)(3) non-profit status, a major milestone that enhanced its capacity to make a lasting impact and significantly expand its fundraising capabilities. This recognition has enabled CAAGE to extend its reach and amplify its voice in advocating for its members.

Rising to the Challenge During the Pandemic
When the pandemic hit, CAAGE continued to demonstrate its commitment to community by supporting nonprofits that provide vital services to those in need. Our contributions during this difficult time supported organizations such as the Chinese Hospital Auxiliary, YMCA, Chinese Chamber of Commerce, CCSC, and Lion Dance Me, among many others. We recognized the urgency of the moment and stepped up to ensure that our community received the assistance it needed during a period of great uncertainty. Each year, CAAGE remains steadfast in its mission to give back to the communities that have supported us. Through fundraising, direct support, and advocacy, we continue to grow our tradition of love, service, and empowerment.
